  Dubai, February 16, - Dr. Geevarghese Mar Osthathios passed away late today evening at St. Gregorios Hospital, Parumala
due to complications from renal failure. He was 94. He was ordained as a deacon in 1947, as priest in 1956 and was elected by the
Malankara Syrian Christian Association as a Metropolitan in October 1974. He professed as Ramban on 2 Oct 1974 and on 15 Feb 1975 was
consecrated as Metropolitan, taking office as the Metropolitan of Niranam diocese on 1 April 1976.

As per the latest news published in the Indian Orthodox Herald yesterday, Dr. Geevarghese Mar Osthathios, the senior Metropolitan of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, has been admitted to St. Gregorios Hospital, Parumala with severe renal failure of both kidneys.

Noted teacher, orator and social and cultural critic Sukumar Azhikode passed away today morning at Amala Hospital in Thrissur. He was 85 years old and was suffering from cancer. For over six decades, the common man of Kerala had treasured his voice of reason and wisdom on several contentious issues based on his deep knowledge of Malayalam, Sanskrit and English literature and Indian philosophy. .

Dubai, January 20 - Mr. Mohan Valrani, the chairman of the Indian High School lit the inaugural lamp to mark a colourful start to the harvest festival celebrations held at the St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral in Dubai. He was received with a traditional thalapoli and shingari melam in which over 25 artistes participated.
