February 14, Dubai: As per the latest news published in the Indian Orthodox Herald yesterday, Dr. Geevarghese Mar
Osthathios, the senior Metropolitan of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, has been admitted to St. Gregorios Hospital, Parumala with severe renal failure of both
kidneys. Attempts to perform dialysis failed and he was immediately put on the ventilator to sustain him until all his family members are able to arrive in Kerala. On
learning of his condition, both the Catholicos Emeritus and the reigning Catholicos rushed to Parumala Hospital to conduct Holy Unction (Kandila Service) for
Metropolitan Mar Osthathios.
Dr. Geevarghese Mar Osthathios had celebrated his 94th birthday on December 9th, 2011. He has held many important positions in the orthodox church including
Metropolitan of Niranam Diocese, President of the Servant of the Cross Society, President of the Orthodox Christian Youth Movement, President of Kerala Christian
Council and Bible Society Auxilary and Vice-President of the Orthodox Theological Seminary in Kottayam. He has represented our church in many national and
international conferences and is a recognized scholar with many books to his credit. He is particularly known for his generosity and sympathy for the weaker sections of
society and was instrumental in establishing many philanthropic organizations and institutions spread across the country.He is a great visionary who has influenced
many through his persuasive preaching and exemplary life, the many thousands in whom he has instilled a love for the sabha and for Christ are praying for him in this

Gregorios of Thiruvananthapuram, Pualose Mar Pachomios of Mavelikkara, Dr. Mathews Mar Severios of Kandanadu West, Dr. Joshua Mar Nichodemus of Nilackal,
Mathews Mar Theodosios of Idukki, and Dr. Abraham Mar Epiphanios of Sultan’s Battery are camping at Parumala for monitoring the situation closely.
